Hailing from Canada before moving to Japan in adulthood, he was gapped into the world of Gensokyo in 2005, shortly after the Phantasmagoria of Flower View incident. His sudden arrival caused its own incident that took Reimu Hakurei nearly six months to resolve.

Following the incident, Blake signed a blood contract with Remilia Scarlet in exchange for permanent residency within the Scarlet Devil Mansion, becoming its chief butler. Much of his decision was motivated by his feelings toward Sakuya Izayoi, whom he would later formally marry on November 18th, 2006.

Blake's life would change forever on December 5th, 2015, when he discovered the frozen-over corpse of Kazuki Murasaki outside the Scarlet Devil Mansion during a heavy snowfall. Together with Sakuya and Remilia, Blake helped nurse Murasaki back to health and temporarily sheltered him within the mansion.

However, tensions quickly arose between the two men. When Blake explained that Murasaki could either accept servitude under Remilia or risk surviving Gensokyo alone, Murasaki violently rejected the idea of surrendering his independence. This led to the first battle between Blake and Murasaki, with Blake willingly accepting the fight as a test of Murasaki’s resolve.

Afterward, Remilia and the Izayois respected Murasaki’s decision to walk his own path. Murasaki departed the Scarlet Devil Mansion soon after for the Moriya Shrine.

Since then, Blake Izayoi and Kazuki Murasaki have remained eternal rivals.
